Shifts
Site visits (min. 2) conducted Mon to Fri, afterschool (early evening). Training will likely take place evening/weekends (PLay Tools Workshop will be Sat, June 4; at least one other workshop needs to be scheduled). Meeting for PLay Mentors end of May will be based on mutual availability.
PLay Mentors must be willing to:
Participate in a meeting with other PLay Mentors to receive background information on the Healthy Kids Community Challenge Ottawa project and the PLay Tools, Training and Curricula initiative (anticipated mid to late May 2016)
Conduct at least two program site visits (each visit a duration of 2 hrs each) by end of afterschool program session (ie. late June 2016). The first visit will take place by end of May and involve orientation to program/program leaders; the second visit will take place by mid June to support program leaders with the assessment of physical literacy of program participants.
Participate in training related to the assessment of physical literacy or provide evidence of participation in previous training
Support the compilation of physical literacy assessment results.
Complete an evaluation related to their ‘PLay Mentor’ experience.

Qualifications / Qualités requises
PLay Mentors should have the following knowledge, skills, and certification:
Knowledge of physical literacy, fundamental movement skills, and the Long Term Athlete Development Framework
Education: Partial/full completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Kinetics, Kinesiology, or related discipline
Certification: Completion of NCCP Fundamental Movement Skills, Sport for Life Society training in PL 101, PL201, and/or PL301, NCCP coaching certification
Experience: Minimum 5 years in leading physical activity, literacy programming for children/youth
Language: Ability to communicate in English and/or French.

As part of the Healthy Kids Community Challenge PLay Tools, Training and Curricula initiative, the PLay Champions Committee is recruiting ‘PLay Mentors’. The role of the ‘PL (Physical Literacy) Mentor’ is to provide onsite support and coaching to frontline program leaders with the integration of physical literacy into their afterschool programs. Specifically, as a ‘PLay Mentor’, you will be assigned to work with participating afterschool program sites to:
Provide practical advice to program leaders on activities to enhance the physical literacy of child/youth participants
Support program leaders with tips/adaptations to support the physical literacy development of children with special needs
Support the assessment of the physical literacy of child/youth participants through such tools as the PLay Tools, CAPL Tool (Canadian Assessment of Physical Literacy Tool), PHE Canada Passport Tool
Share your knowledge of information resources relating to physical activity, physical literacy and/or distribute/educate activity tracking tools with program leaders, parents, and, child/youth participants.
