Qualifications / Qualités requises
-Demonstrated ability to life 50lbs (boxes and large artefacts)
-Daily access to reliable vehicle
-Currently enrolled in/completed university or college history, art history, fine arts, social sciences or museum studies program or equivalent experience.
- 1 year collections management /registration experience in a museum/gallery environment and/or
- 1 year technical experience in a museum/gallery environment (includes experience working with specialized tools for exhibit instillation)
- Red Cross Standard First Aid Certified including level "C" CPR or equivalent
- WHMIS training
- Provincial Conservation Standards for collections
- Registration practices and procedures
- Collection Management practices
- Knowledge of City of Ottawa standard computer software and museological databases
- Working knowledge of applicable occupational health and safety legislation
- General Knowledge of corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to health and
safety
- Strong oral, written and interpersonal communication
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills
- Strong computer literacy
- Ability to achieve goals with directions
- Dexterity for handling objects
- Ability to problem solve
- Attention to detail

Job Summary:
Assists the Collections Officer/Cultural Planner, with the intellectual (information) and physical management
of artifacts/artworks. Duties will include registration, cataloguing, prepares artifacts/artworks, prepares and
maintains the display/exhibition /storage spaces, installs and dismantles the exhibitions, and receives
shipments. Duties will include knowledge of museum standards in regard to the handling and care,
preparation for delivery and installation, and storage of a wide range of objects. Also assists with research
and respond to public inquires.
Key Duties:
Following established registration practices for identifying and tracking artifacts/artworks. Enters
information on standard documents and into a database. Assess and identify anomalies through
registration process and ensures accuracy of information recorded into the database. Files reports
and other documentation.
Assists with the installation, cleaning and labeling of artifacts/artworks in various City facilities.
Handles various types of artifacts/artworks in accordance with museum standards. Requires
packing, unpacking and relocating with the knowledge that the objects are valuable and fragile.
Implement preventative conservation practices throughout process of dealing with all
artifacts/artworks. Makes most efficient use of limited space in order to protect City assists.
Gather and compile information regarding artifacts and public inquires. The research will be
collected through consulting with the public and reviewing various documents and publications.
Gathers statistical information in response to requests. Provides research results in written form to
the supervisor will be used for publications and /or communications materials.
Performs other related duties consistent with duties outlined above.
Performs work in accordance with the provisions of Occupational Health and Safety Act and
Regulations and all City of Ottawa corporate/departmental policies and procedures related to
Occupational Health and Safety.
