- Qualifications / Qualités requises
- The Heritage Specialist is responsible for interpretive and educational program development as well as delivery at the city's historic sites and museums The HS I assists with ongoing promotional activities; liaises with volunteers, community groups and facility user groups; receives and directs visitors, answers public inquiries and dispenses public information; performs reception and clerical duties as needed.
Delivery of interpretive programs
• Interpret the permanent and temporary exhibits, artifacts and archival collection
• Offer guided tours of the museum and grounds to a variety of audiences
• Conduct school programs, workshops and introductions.
Public inquiries, reception and clerical duties
• Ensure the availability, distribution, storage and inspection of program equipment and outreach kits.
• Take admissions fees and performs sales of gift shop items.
• Keep records of registrations, attendance statistics and reports.
Experience
Minimum of:
• 2 years - interpretive experience in a museum environment delivering programs to children and families
and / or
• 2 years experience teaching in a school environment/summer camp environment delivering programs to children and families
Completion of health and safety training required by legislation and by the corporation of the City of Ottawa
Experience in working with children with special needs and cash handling/CLASS experience will be considered an asset.
