Qualifications / Qualités requises
• Preference is given to a background/education in the visual arts (however a background in the arts would be an asset)
• Friendly, punctual, courteous, appreciative manner that exhibits an interest in the arts and the ability to converse with artist(s) and viewers about the artwork.
• Ability to work with a single artist or groups of artists as a supportive, interested, knowledgeable assistant
• Knowledge about visual art history and techniques, art galleries, design principles and aesthetics
• Possess technical skills: ability to measure, stand on ladders, adjust ceiling lighting, level paintings and install gallery labels
• Word, Excel
• Bilingualism an asset
• Preference for one person to work in both Community Galleries: Atrium Gallery, Nepean and Trinity Art Gallery, Orleans

This position came about in order to further promote equal service delivery between the Community Galleries in the East and West. Therefore, it is preferable that one person take on the job of Community Gallery Assistant (Art Specialist 12 B job code 10027428) for all of the Community Galleries: Atrium Gallery, Trinity Art Gallery Salon A and Trinity Art Gallery Salon B, plus two respective Community Exhibition Spaces: Nepean Fine Arts League Gallery at Ben Franklin Place (BFP) and Promenade Arteast at Shenkman Arts Centre (SAC).
• Art centre programmers will train and have Gallery Assistants on hand to assist exhibiting artists with the installation of their artwork
• the artists will arrive and unpack their exhibitions and layout their artwork where they would like it to be positioned in the gallery
• Within the framework of set hours (3 hours per installation day at (BFP) on Thursday afternoon and 5 hours per installation day at (SAC) on Wednesday afternoon) the Gallery Assistant will be in the gallery with the artists assisting the artists and with hanging their artwork correctly and safely, installing labels, adjusting lights and performing duties as needed.
• Within the framework of 9.6 hours per month/exhibition 124 hours per year, the Gallery Assistant will be ready to assist with the occasional installation of artwork from members of Arteast at Promenade Arteast (SAC) and Nepean Fine Arts League NFAL Gallery at (BFP) Community Exhibition spaces
