- Qualifications / Qualités requises
- Education: Registered Practical Nurse Diploma
Experience: Minimum of one (1) year of nursing experience, preferably with persons with disabilities in a clinical and/or community setting
Certificate/ License:
• Registered Practical Nurses (College of Nurses of Ontario)
• Current CPR – C and AED
• Current routine immunizations including Hepatitis B
• Crisis Prevention Intervention Certification (ABI Program)
• Ontario Brain Injury Association Certification 1 (ABI program)
Knowledge:
• Knowledge/best practices related to adults, adolescents, children with disabilities
• Activation, rehabilitation and palliative approaches
• Basic knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations such as: Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Regulated Health Professions Act, Health Care Consent Act, Nursing Act, Mental Health Act, Professional Misconduct and Controlled Act, Professional Standards, Code of Ethics, practice expectations
• Infection Control Guidelines
• Medication Administration Standards
• Nursing Documentation Standards
• Principles of verbal and non-verbal communication
• Transfer and positioning techniques for persons requiring long term care
• Health promotion and disease prevention strategies
• General knowledge of computer software applications including word processing and mail applications (e.g. Word, Outlook)

• Administer medications and perform nursing care procedures safely
• Identify and report changes in resident condition or needs through observation of physical and mental condition/behaviour
• Coordinate care activities of unregulated care providers (i.e. program staff, personal support workers, volunteers) in an effective manner that promotes quality resident care
• Maintain confidentiality and its application to resident records
• Counsel individuals, families and other professionals
• Apply computer skills as they pertain to databases and spreadsheets
• Process general administrative work using word processing applications, e-mail, and the Internet
• Possess strong data entry and keyboarding skills
• Possess problem-solving and decision-making skills
• Organize and prioritize work assignments to meet deadlines
• Function as an effective team member
• Interact effectively and professionally with children, adolescents, parents, school officials and/or adults/volunteers and the general public
• Communicate effectively (verbal and written) with clients, co-workers and other health professionals
• Organize and transport equipment and supplies
• Able to effectively multi-task and manage time effectively
• Lift up to eighteen (18) kilograms
• Adhere to legislation
• Work at various locations within the City of Ottawa
